Highway construction over weak subgrades or embankment construction over soft soils will involve GeoPro Geotextiles and GeoPro Geogrid providing basal reinforcement and separation to improve the quality of the foundation materials. If the embankment involves steepened side slopes then these will need to be reinforced with geogrid and the slopes protected with GeoPro Cell or GeoPro Erosion Blankets.
GeoPro Cell is an excellent product for minimising depth of foundations and acting as a semi flexible raft over compressible soils. It spreads the load over a large area and improves the shear stress of the infill soil. This has been used in many applications even in our Case Study in the South Pole!
Erosion control measure will depend on many factors such as rainfall, soil type, and steepness of the slopes. Various measures can be used ranging from natural fibre blankets to cellular confinment depending on the risk factor involved. We are pleased to discuss these further with you and advise which treatment would be right for your site.
Roadside drainage can be utilise prefabricated strip drainage or if in open channels these can be reinforced with Erosion Blanket or Cellular Confinement.
Retaining Walls are frequently used in Highway construction and specific information can be found under that 'Services' section.
In Highway construction maintenance asphalt overlays can be reinforced with geotextiles impregnated with bitument emulsion and glass fibre geogrids which improve the lifespan of the new road surfaces and protect the foundations from degradation.
