GeoPro Coir Logs are dense tubes of coir fibres held together with heavy coir twine netting and used to protect stream banks, foreshores and river re-alignments. The coir logs protect the base of the riverine slopes and allow native vegetation such as juncus and melaleuca to establish and thrive and not be pulled out by fast flows or tidal movements.
Coir logs are staked with hardwood stakes driven into the river bed and then securely tied with heavy coir rope to the stakes and to the adjacent log. Standard coir logs can be stacked when more retaining is required or larger special sized coir logs can be ordered. It is quite common to create natural terraces using the coir logs in combination with coir mesh blankets or standard coir blankets.
Whilst coir logs are densely filled, they can still be bent to shape around existing tree roots or riverine structures so protecting them from further erosion. They can also be used across newly formed storm drains to reduce the speed of flow and catch sediments so promoting vegetation and long term restoration.
Smaller diameter coir logs can be placed on the contours of steeper slopes to reduce sediment runoff and have proved very effective in fire ravaged slopes where the natural vegetation has not yet been rehabilitated and gullies and rills are likely to form. Larger diameter coir logs can also be supplied.
