Coir fibres are natural fibres which are extracted from the coconut and are manufactured into a variety of interesting products including GeoPro Coir Blankets and Coir Mesh for erosion control projects. Coir fibre products are slower to break down than other natural fibre products but as they degrade so they add important nutrients to the soil which promotes further vegetative growth.

Coir blankets are effective natural fibre blanket used to protect slopes from the impact of run-off and preventing sediment loss during rehabilitation. Coir blankets are a simple mass of coir fibres stitched together between two fine nets. This 'closed' blanket is ideal for sandy soils where fine soil particles can easily be eroded by wind or rain.   GeoPro Coir Blankets are available in different weights depending on the needs of the project.  Lighter weight coir blankets are used for protecting seeded areas and heavier weight blankets are for erosion control and this can also can be cut to allow for planting.

GeoPro Coir Mesh blanket is a natural woven coir fabric which is an ‘open weave,’ allowing vegetation to grow through while providing strength and stability. Used for steeper slopes and for loamy soils where grass can become established and become reinforced into the fibres. Different weights of mesh blanket are available and some stronger fabrics are available for steep slopes.
